At £47,995, the seven-seat plug-in hybrid enters the market considerably below the price of a plug-in hybrid Land Rover Defender 110. BYD is therefore targeting buyers who want the size and presence of a premium SUV without paying traditional luxury-SUV prices.

The Ti 7 also offers something many similarly priced petrol and hybrid SUVs cannot: a combination of seven seats, all-wheel drive, plug-in capability and more than 70 miles of quoted electric range.

The Ti 7's seven-seat layout is one of its biggest selling points.

With all seven seats occupied, luggage space is limited. However, folding the third row dramatically increases practicality, while folding both rear rows transforms the Ti 7 into a sizeable cargo hauler.
