[BYD Ti 7: The £47,995 Plug-In Hybrid SUV That Could Shake Up the Market]

BYD Ti 7 UK Launch: 408PS Plug-In Hybrid SUV Takes Aim at the Land Rover Defender

The BYD Ti 7 is set to become one of the brand's most ambitious UK launches yet. Designed to compete in the large premium SUV segment, the seven-seat PHEV combines a rugged exterior with a high-tech interior and an electrified powertrain.

UK orders opened in late July 2026, while showroom arrivals are expected from November. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2027.

Rather than launching with several variants, BYD is initially offering the Ti 7 exclusively in the highly equipped Excellence AWD specification.

£47,995 Price Gives the Ti 7 a Major Advantage

The biggest weapon in the BYD Ti 7's UK launch is its pricing.

At £47,995, the seven-seat plug-in hybrid enters the market considerably below the price of a plug-in hybrid Land Rover Defender 110. BYD is therefore targeting buyers who want the size and presence of a premium SUV without paying traditional luxury-SUV prices.

The Ti 7 also offers something many similarly priced petrol and hybrid SUVs cannot: a combination of seven seats, all-wheel drive, plug-in capability and more than 70 miles of quoted electric range.

408PS Super Hybrid Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the Ti 7 uses BYD's DM-p Super Hybrid system.

The setup combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors, producing approximately 408PS. The electric motors work with the all-wheel-drive system to deliver strong acceleration while allowing the SUV to operate on electric power for shorter journeys.

The claimed 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds is particularly impressive for a large SUV weighing around 2.4 tonnes.

Power comes from a 35.6kWh Blade LFP battery, providing up to 74 miles of electric-only range. For longer journeys, the hybrid system provides the flexibility of petrol power alongside electric assistance.

Designed for Families

The Ti 7's seven-seat layout is one of its biggest selling points.

Seating Configuration

Approx. Cargo Capacity

All 7 seats in use

126 litres

Third row folded

970 litres

Rear rows folded

1,830 litres

With all seven seats occupied, luggage space is limited. However, folding the third row dramatically increases practicality, while folding both rear rows transforms the Ti 7 into a sizeable cargo hauler.

This makes the SUV suitable for everything from school runs and daily commuting to longer family road trips.

Technology-Focused Interior

The Ti 7's cabin takes a distinctly modern approach.

The standard equipment list includes:

  • 15.6-inch central touchscreen

  • 10.25-inch digital instrument display

  • 18-speaker premium audio system

  • Heated and ventilated leather seats

  • Three-zone climate control

  • Dual 50W wireless smartphone charging

  • Vehicle-to-load functionality

  • Built-in cooling and warming storage compartment

The latter is an unusual feature in the segment, giving passengers a dedicated compartment for keeping food and drinks cool or warm during longer journeys.

Can the BYD Ti 7 Really Challenge the Defender?

The Ti 7 is not attempting to beat the Defender purely on traditional off-road credentials. Instead, BYD's strategy is based on value, electrification and technology.

The Defender has decades of brand heritage, strong off-road credentials and a well-established premium reputation. BYD counters with a significantly lower price, seven seats, extensive standard equipment and a powerful plug-in hybrid system.

BYD Ti 7 UK Launch: What Happens Next?

The BYD Ti 7 represents another major step in the expansion of Chinese automotive brands across Europe. With UK showroom arrivals expected in November 2026 and customer deliveries beginning in January 2027, buyers will soon be able to experience the seven-seat PHEV for themselves.

Its formula is straightforward: large SUV proportions, seven seats, 408PS, plug-in hybrid efficiency and premium technology — all for under £50,000.

If BYD can deliver the quality and driving experience expected by UK buyers, the Ti 7 could become a serious alternative to established premium SUVs and further increase competition in Britain's large family-SUV market.
