BYD, the world’s biggest electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially launched the Sealion 06 mid-size SUV in China. The new BYD Sealion 06 is available in all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. With the launch of Sealion 06, the Chinese EV maker has extended the Ocean series. However, the Sealion 06 UAE launch has not been confirmed yet, but the model can be brought in via authorized dealers or through private dealership imports, as seen with other BYD models in the country.
The all-electric version of BYD Sealion 06 is built on the company’s e-platform 3.0 Evo architecture and uses a rear-wheel drive layout. BYD has introduced the Sealion 06 Electric in three variants: Navigation, Navigation Pro, and Navigation Plus. The BYD Sealion Navigation is the base variant, equipped with a 65.28 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 228 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque.
The claimed range for this variant is 520 km on a single charge. In contrast, the Navigation Pro and Navigation Plus are equipped with a 78.72 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor that produces 241 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque.
In China, the BYD Sealion 06 Navigation, Navigation Pro, and Navigation Plus are priced at 143,800 yuan (approximately AED 73,000), 153,800 yuan (approximately AED 78,000), and 163,800 yuan (approximately AED 83,000), respectively.

The PHEV variant of Sealion 06 is based on BYD’s 5th-generation DM-i hybrid system, which features a petrol engine and an electric motor for an extended driving range. The Sealion 06 PHEV is available in three variants, including Pilot, Pilot Pro, and Pilot Plus.
The BYD Sealion Pilot is equipped with an 18.3 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor that produces 215 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque, as well as a petrol engine that generates 100 horsepower and 126 Nm of torque. While the all-electric range for this variant is 121 km, the combined range can go up to 1,621 km.
The Sealion 06 Pilot Pro and Pilot Plus both feature a 26.6 kWh battery and a 100-horsepower, 126 Nm torque petrol engine. However, the Pilot Pro is equipped with a 215-hp/260 Nm torque electric motor, while the Pilot Plus boasts a 241-hp/260 Nm torque motor. However, both variants deliver a pure electric range of 170 km on a single charge and a combined range of 1,670 km.
In terms of pricing, the BYD Sealion 06 Pilot, Pilot Pro, and Pilot Plus are available at 139,800 yuan (approximately AED 71,000), 146,800 yuan (approximately AED 74,600), and 156,800 yuan (approximately AED 79,800), respectively.

The Sealion 06 gets a sealed front grille with a split-level LED headlamp setup. Its front bumper features larger corner air intakes, while the side profile boasts flush-mounted door handles and a high beltline. It also has a wavy full-width light bar and a roof spoiler.
In terms of dimensions, the electric and PHEV variants of BYD Sealions 06 measure 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,675 mm in height, and 2,820 mm in wheelbase. The new Sealion 06 has 757 liters of boot space and an additional 142 liters of frunk space.
Inside, the Sealion 06 cabin has a symmetrical dashboard layout in all trims, including a lat-bottom, four-spoke steering wheel, dual cupholders, a rotary dial, and a compact refrigerator on the center console. There are two interior color themes available, and comfortable seating for five passengers.
For technology features, the BYD Sealion 06 SUV is equipped with a 15.6-inch rotatable center infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, an NFC-based smart key system, a panoramic sunroof, an in-vehicle ETC system, remote view functionality, wireless smartphone charging, and external power discharge capability (available in PHEV variants).
The Sealion 06 features several safety measures, including 7 airbags as standard in all variants, DiPilot 100 intelligent driving system, Highway NOA, Sentinel Mode for monitoring surroundings, side collision alert, autonomous emergency braking, a rear wiper with 87.3% windshield coverage, and over 30 active safety features.
