Bugatti Destrier Unveiled as Unique Coachbuilt Hypercar Ahead of Pebble Beach Debut
The Bugatti Destrier has made its digital debut ahead of its physical appearance during Monterey Car Week 2026. The hypercar will be displayed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 14, followed by the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 16, 2026.
Underneath its dramatically redesigned bodywork, the Bugatti Destrier shares the carbon-fibre monocoque and running gear of the Bolide. It also retains the legendary 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, delivering around 1,600 PS.
However, the Destrier has a very different purpose. While the Bolide was engineered exclusively for track performance, the Destrier uses its extreme proportions as the foundation for a sculptural, road-going creation.
Bugatti Director of Design Frank Heyl says the Bolide gave the design team some of the most extreme proportions ever created by the brand. Freed from the need to optimise every surface for aerodynamic downforce, those proportions could instead be treated as pure sculpture.
The Destrier stands under one metre tall, giving it an exceptionally low and wide stance. Its cabin is positioned tightly between the front fenders, while huge wheels emphasise its muscular proportions.
The hypercar features 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels, with a narrow waist behind its forward-hinged doors before the body expands into prominent rear haunches.
A distinctive chrome strip runs across the bonnet, over the roof and towards the rear wing.
At the front, Bugatti's signature horseshoe grille receives a wider opening and precision-machined aluminium surround. A carbon-fibre centre section carries the enamel Bugatti badge.
The name Destrier refers to the powerful warhorses historically associated with medieval knights, reflecting the car's imposing character.
Bugatti has also incorporated references to its historic racing heritage.
A hand-laser-engraved plate above the windscreen depicts the legendary Type 57G "Tank" racer and Type 57SC Atlantic.
The connection is deliberate. Like the modern Bolide and Destrier, the historic Type 57G and Atlantic shared an underlying platform while serving completely different purposes.
The Type 57G "Tank" achieved overall victories at Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, while the Type 57SC Atlantic remains one of Bugatti's most celebrated designs.
Inside, Bugatti has replaced the Bolide's track-focused cockpit with a more luxurious haute-couture cabin.
The interior combines Ambre Voyageur leather and nubuck with a three-dimensional knitted textile. The bespoke cabin is paired with the exterior's Sapphire Celeste finish, creating a distinctive combination developed specifically for this commission.

The Destrier has already been commissioned and sold to a single anonymous private collector. The project was developed directly with Bugatti's design team in Molsheim, allowing the owner to create a truly unique vehicle.
Bugatti has not announced the purchase price. However, exclusive Programme Solitaire commissions can command prices in the multi-million-dollar range.
Following its Pebble Beach appearance, the Destrier will be delivered to the owner's private collection.
With its 1,600 PS W16, Bolide-derived architecture, bespoke bodywork and one-of-one status, the Bugatti Destrier is less a conventional hypercar and more a rolling piece of automotive art.
