[The all-new BMW X5 brings bold design, cutting-edge technology, and electrified performance to redefine the luxury SUV segment.]
BMW has officially unveiled the fifth-generation X5, introducing its most diverse lineup yet with five powertrain options—petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), fully electric and a future hydrogen fuel-cell model. Production begins in August 2026 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US. Petrol and diesel variants go on sale globally on 28 November 2026, while EV and PHEV orders open on 8 October 2026 ahead of deliveries in early 2027. The new X5 is also expected to reach the UAE shortly after its global launch.
The new X5 features a bolder design with a larger illuminated kidney grille, BMW's first "Double-X" LED lighting signature, and pillar-integrated Winglet door handles. It rides on standard 21-inch wheels, with 22- and 23-inch options available. M Sport, M Sport Pro and M Performance accessories add a sportier appearance, while the flagship M60e receives exclusive styling details.
The BMW iX5 60 xDrive is the first all-electric X5, powered by BMW's sixth-generation eDrive system and an 800V architecture. Dual electric motors produce 578hp and 805Nm, delivering 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Its 141kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 645-845km, supports 460kW DC fast charging, and can charge from 10-80% in 23 minutes. Bidirectional charging is also supported in compatible markets.
The X5 40 xDrive features a 3.0-litre petrol engine with 400hp and 580Nm, while the X5 40d xDrive uses a 3.0-litre diesel producing 313hp and 670Nm. Both models use 48V mild-hybrid technology, adding up to 18hp and 200Nm for improved efficiency and smoother performance.
The X5 50e xDrive produces 489hp and 700Nm, offering up to 102km of electric-only driving. The range-topping X5 M60e xDrive, the most powerful X5 ever, delivers 612hp, 800Nm, a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds, and up to 98km of electric range. Both PHEVs can drive on electric power at speeds of up to 140km/h.
BMW also confirmed its first series-production hydrogen SUV, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen. Using a third-generation fuel-cell system co-developed with Toyota, it targets a 750km driving range with hydrogen refuelling taking less than five minutes.
Inside, the X5 introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X, a 17.9-inch central display, optional 14.6-inch passenger screen, AI-powered voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, premium seating, panoramic sunroof and a Bowers & Wilkins Dolby Atmos audio system.
Adaptive suspension comes standard, while higher trims offer air suspension, active steering and active roll stabilisation. BMW's new Symbiotic Drive Level 2 assistance enables advanced hands-free driving in selected markets, supported by AI-assisted parking, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking and lane-keeping technologies.
Production starts in August 2026, with petrol and diesel models arriving in November 2026. Electric and plug-in hybrid versions follow in early 2027, while the UAE launch is expected soon after. With five powertrain choices and cutting-edge technology, the new BMW X5 marks one of BMW's biggest steps toward a multi-energy future.
