Audi has unveiled the 2025 Q5 and SQ5, marking a likely end for this model series with traditional engines as the brand prepares for an electric future. The new third-generation Q5 and SQ5 have received major updates in design, features, and technology, enhancing their appeal and performance.
Unlike the old A4, which became the new A5, the Q5 will keep its name. Even though it has an odd number in its ‘Q’ series, the 2025 Audi Q5 will continue with traditional engines for now.
Slick exterior design
The new Q5 has a bigger and more imposing look than the current model. It features a taller stance with a wider, bolder Audi grille. The updated LED headlights, which have slim LED daytime running lights that look like eyebrows, add character. Large air intakes with silver trim complement the grille and window frames, enhancing its design.
The front bumper of the new Q5 has a sporty look with a wide lower intake, and the sculpted hood adds to its sleek appearance. At the back, there are notable updates including new 3D OLED taillights with animated effects in some markets and a redesigned rear bumper. The bumper features a honeycomb pattern with silver trim and has rectangular exhaust tips similar to those on a Porsche Macan. The 2025 Q5 can be equipped with 20-inch wheels, with 21-inch options available for the SQ5.
The sporty SQ5 2025 comes with black trim, larger and more detailed wheels, and red brake calipers. It also features rounded quad tailpipes like those on a Macan S. Overall, the Q5's exterior design is sophisticated, though Audi could have avoided the fake rear vents.
The 2025 Audi Q5's cabin is expected to offer more space for both front and rear passengers compared to the current model. Although the increase in interior size won't be drastic, any extra room is a positive change. The front seats provide ample space and feature extendable thigh support for added comfort.
The rear seats are well-padded and wide, with the middle seat being quite decent as well. The front seatbacks are designed to improve knee room, and there should be enough headroom for most people. The boot comes with useful tie-down hooks and storage nets, and both its size and depth are practical and functional.
The interior of the 2025 Audi Q5 showcases Audi's advanced design with its new "Digital Stage" concept. This includes curved dual displays and an optional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger. The main displays are OLED panels, with the Virtual Cockpit at 11.9 inches and the MMI screen at 15.5 inches.
The front passenger's screen can control some infotainment features and has a Dynamic Privacy mode to keep the display hidden from the driver to reduce distractions. The cabin features LED mood lighting and dynamic lighting on the dashboard to enhance its modern and luxurious feel.
The driver-focused dashboard and sporty elements, like the design of the seats and flat-bottom steering wheel, contribute to a dynamic atmosphere. The traditional gear lever has been replaced by a small toggle switch, which may take some getting used to. Additionally, buttons for lights, mirrors, seats, and locks have been consolidated into one touch-sensitive panel on the driver's side.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel of the new Audi Q5 has buttons that control the Virtual Cockpit and key functions of the MMI infotainment system. Despite using some recycled materials, the interior quality remains excellent.
The infotainment system operates on Android Automotive OS, allowing access to various Google apps through the Play Store, including YouTube. The car features a new 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with 3D surround sound and active noise cancellation.
Additionally, there's a new, large, and configurable head-up display (HUD) with multiple modes. It projects important information like speed, navigation instructions, and media details, and is controlled via the steering wheel buttons.
What are the technical specifications of the Audi Q5 2025?
Like the new Audi A5, the 2025 Audi Q5 will use the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture. This platform is designed for Audi vehicles with front-mounted combustion engines but can also support some electric assistance. The goal is to enhance both efficiency and performance with Audi’s MHEV plus technology, which includes a 48-volt electrical system.
The 48-volt system in the 2025 Audi Q5 includes a 1.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a powertrain generator (PTG), similar to the new A5. The PTG can run the climate control for a short time when the engine is off, start the engine, and charge the battery.
With the PTG, the Q5 can drive short distances using only electric power. During regular driving, braking helps recover energy and recharge the battery, boosting overall efficiency.
The 2025 Audi Q5 in Europe will offer two petrol engine options, both with MHEV plus technology. The base Q5 2.0 TFSI engine has 201 hp and 340 Nm of torque, with fuel efficiency of 15.6 km/L (6.4 L/100 km) for FWD and 13.7 km/L (7.3 L/100 km) for AWD.
The 2025 Audi SQ5 features a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine, delivering 362 hp and 550 Nm of torque, with a fuel efficiency of 11.6 km/L (8.6 L/100 km). The base Q5 can be FWD or AWD, while the SQ5 comes with Quattro all-wheel drive as standard. All models have a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
The entry-level Audi Q5 will offer improved ride and handling thanks to its updated steel spring suspension and front axle. For those who want a mix of comfort and sportiness, the optional air suspension with adaptive dampers is a great choice. It significantly improves the driving experience, especially when switching between Comfort and Sport modes.
When will the all-new Audi Q5 & SQ5 be launched?
The new Audi Q5 and SQ5 will launch in Germany and other European countries in early 2025. The base Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI will start at EUR 52,300 (about AED 213,000), while the Audi SQ5 will begin at EUR 82,900 (around AED 337,000). The Q5 and SQ5 are expected to arrive in the UAE in the first half of 2025.
The all-new 2025 Audi Q5 and SQ5 bring significant design, tech, and performance upgrades while retaining internal combustion engines. With advanced features like MHEV technology, improved suspension, and luxurious interiors, these models offer enhanced driving dynamics and comfort. Set to launch in early 2025, they continue Audi's legacy in the premium SUV segment, with global and UAE deliveries expected soon after.
