Audi has unveiled the stunning Nuvolari, a limited-production hybrid supercar that signals a dramatic return to the brand’s high-performance roots. Positioned as the spiritual successor to the legendary Audi R8, the Nuvolari combines cutting-edge hybrid technology, extreme performance, and an exclusive production run of just 499 units worldwide. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, making it one of Audi’s most ambitious projects to date.
The Audi Nuvolari marks a significant step forward for the German automaker’s performance division. While the R8 was a mass-produced supercar, the Nuvolari takes a more exclusive approach, targeting collectors and enthusiasts with its limited-run production.
Built on Audi’s latest-generation performance architecture, the supercar features a lightweight Audi Space Frame monocoque chassis, engineered to maximize rigidity while keeping weight under control. The platform is also expected to underpin future high-performance Audi models.
At the heart of the Nuvolari sits a mid-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and three advanced axial-flux electric motors.
The powertrain places the Nuvolari among the most powerful road-going Audis ever built. Its output surpasses the Lamborghini Temerario and comes remarkably close to the flagship Lamborghini Revuelto.
Audi’s advanced Quattro all-wheel-drive system continuously adapts to changing road and track conditions, ensuring maximum traction and stability at high speeds.
The Nuvolari offers multiple driving modes that significantly alter the vehicle’s character:
Audi says the Track Mode continuously learns driving behavior to optimize handling and performance on the circuit.
To manage its immense performance, the Nuvolari features active aerodynamic components, including a movable rear spoiler and adaptive front splitter that adjust according to speed and driving conditions.
A dedicated cooling system helps maintain braking efficiency during aggressive driving and track sessions.
The Nuvolari adopts a futuristic yet unmistakably Audi design language. At the front, a large vertical grille, slim LED headlights, and sculpted aerodynamic elements create an aggressive appearance.
The side profile subtly pays tribute to the R8 through styling cues reminiscent of its iconic side blades, while the rear features sleek LED lighting, a sloping roofline, and integrated active aerodynamic components.
Audi has confirmed that production of the Nuvolari will begin in 2027. Pre-bookings for the limited 499-unit production run are expected to open in the coming months, while pricing and additional specifications will be announced closer to launch.
The Audi Nuvolari represents a bold new chapter for Audi's performance division. Combining a near-1,000bhp hybrid powertrain, advanced aerodynamics, exclusive production numbers, and striking design, the Nuvolari is shaping up to be a worthy successor to the beloved R8. With only 499 units planned worldwide, it is likely to become one of Audi’s most sought-after supercars.
