Abu Dhabi has taken another major step in its smart mobility journey with the launch of an AI-powered parking system that eliminates traditional tickets and manual payment methods. The new technology is designed to make parking more convenient for motorists while reducing payment errors and administrative delays.
Developed by Q Mobility, the system uses advanced artificial intelligence and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to create a seamless parking experience across selected facilities.
The new Free Flow Paid Parking System relies on high-resolution cameras that automatically identify vehicles when they enter and leave a parking facility.
This barrier-free approach allows vehicles to enter and exit parking areas without stopping, helping reduce congestion during busy periods.
A major feature of the new system is its direct integration with the Darb e-wallet platform. Once a vehicle exits a parking facility, the system automatically calculates the parking fee and deducts the amount from the registered Darb account.
Drivers are encouraged to maintain sufficient wallet balances, as insufficient funds may result in payment processing issues or potential penalties.
The AI-based parking solution offers several advantages for motorists across Abu Dhabi:
Drivers no longer need to remember parking expiry times or complete manual payment processes.
The absence of parking barriers and ticket machines allows smoother traffic flow, especially during peak hours.
Automated billing minimizes the risk of missed payments, expired sessions, and compliance-related fines.
Businesses and fleet operators can benefit from simplified parking administration and reduced disputes over parking violations.
The initial deployment targets premium private parking locations and multi-storey facilities across Abu Dhabi. Authorities plan a phased expansion to additional parking areas as drivers become familiar with the new digital ecosystem.
Industry experts believe this ticketless model could become a standard parking solution across major GCC cities as governments continue investing in smart transportation infrastructure.
Abu Dhabi's new AI-powered smart parking system marks a significant advancement in urban mobility and digital transportation services. By combining automatic number plate recognition technology with Darb wallet payments, the emirate is creating a faster, more convenient, and fully automated parking experience. As the rollout expands, drivers can expect fewer delays, simpler payments, and a more seamless approach to daily parking across the city.
