Toyota Hilux, renowned for its rugged design and performance, is preparing to debut an electric variant by 2025, as announced by Toyota Thailand's head, Noriaki Yamashita. Production of the electric Hilux is scheduled to commence by the close of next year. This decision follows Isuzu's announcement regarding the electrification of its D-Max pickup truck.
The electric version maintains the design cues of its traditional counterpart, retaining its spacious cargo area and sturdy appearance. Minor adjustments may be made before the final production model is unveiled.

The electric Hilux is anticipated to be available worldwide, including in Europe, where it will rival upcoming electric pickups like the Isuzu D-Max and Ford F-150 Lightning. Given Toyota's significant 30% market share in Europe's pickup segment, the electric Hilux holds considerable significance for the brand.
While Toyota has yet to confirm the release of the electric Hilux in the UAE, the growing popularity of electric vehicles in the region suggests that Toyota may introduce it soon. Rigorous testing of the Hilux EV is planned in Pattaya, where numerous vehicles will undergo thorough evaluation, including public usage, to identify areas for enhancement and assess their performance.
Verdict
Toyota's approach to vehicle technology encompasses a wide range of options, including hydrogen, electric, hybrid, and alternative fuels. While the company is actively pursuing electrification, it maintains a diverse strategy to cater to different market needs and preferences. Additionally, Toyota's commitment to investing in hydrogen highlights its dedication to exploring innovative solutions for sustainable mobility.
