The original Jeep Cherokee was a two-door sporty spin-off of the Jeep Wagoneer. It was manufactured as a full-size, body-on-frame station wagon. Initially, it was considered to be the first car to fulfill the eligibility of an SUV in brochures and became immensely popular among young performance car buyers looking for practicality and off-road capable features. Launched in 1974, the Cherokee was manufactured till February 2023. Now, Jeep is again preparing to revive this iconic nameplate with market launch in 2026. As per the available details, the Cherokee nameplate will have a revamped design and an all-new 210 bhp hybrid powertrain setup.

The 2026 Cherokee will be positioned between the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and will be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which also underpins the Wagoneer S EV. However, it will offer a more modern design with sharper lines and creases than the older models. In the front, the 2026 Cherokee will be dominated by a wide, 7-slot grille framed by sleek, rectangular LED headlights. The Cherokee will also have a 116 mm longer wheelbase and ride on 17-inch to 21-inch alloy wheels, depending on the trim level chosen by customers.
Inside the cabin, expect premium upholstery materials, possibly in two major themes, Global Black and Arctic (optional in higher trims). It will offer a sleek, well-optimized dashboard with a square-off steering wheel and an updated center console layout. In terms of technology features, there could be a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 10.3-inch digital cluster, rain-sensing wipers, and a comprehensive safety package with Level 2 ADAS.

In higher trims, Jeep can also offer a dual-pane sunroof, a foot-activated power tailgate, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front and heated rear seats, a premium audio system, and an Alexa-powered in-vehicle assistant.
Under the hood, the 2026 Cherokee will house a hybrid-only powertrain setup that comprises a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine rated to deliver 177 bhp. It will be paired with two electric motors to produce 210 bhp and 230 lb-ft of torque combined. Stellantis claims the new Cherokee will deliver 15.73 km/l of mileage and offer over 805 km of driving range on a full tank and a fully charged battery. The SUV will come mated with the Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system that allows the driver to disconnect the rear axle and operate in front-wheel drive for higher fuel economy.
As of now, Jeep hasn’t made an official confirmation whether the Jeep Cherokee will arrive in the UAE. However, considering the sales performance and buying trends, the UAE seems to be an ideal market for Jeep, and it can launch its 2026 Cherokee in the country.
