Alfa Romeo has announced the launch of its Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV this year with an electric powertrain option. Earlier this year, the luxury car brand confirmed it would leverage a multi-energy approach, indicating the vehicles will have an electric motor paired with an ICE option to power these upcoming models. Alfa Romeo also confirmed that the new generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be introduced in the market first then its Giulia sedan, both in hybrid options.

Alfa Romeo and Maserati CEO Santo Ficili confirmed in a LinkedIn post that the crossover SUV would be based on the STLA Large platform, which is also offered in the Dodge Charger, Jeep Recon, and Jeep Wagoneer S. This architecture can be used for vehicles measuring between 4800 mm and 5500 mm and equipped with up to 118kWh battery packs, ensuring the EV delivers a maximum range of 800 km.
Though the power delivery and other specifications have not yet been revealed, the Charger R/T, based on the same platform, has a dual motor and all-wheel drive system, producing 456 horsepower and 547 Nm of torque. However, the Scat Pack further increases the power delivery to 630 horsepower and torque to 849 Nm.
The Charger will soon get a Charger Sixpack variant featuring the Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six engine found in the Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer. This 3.0L twin-turbo engine can deliver 420 hp for standard trims and 550 hp for high-spec variants. Since the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio is announced to boast an STLA Large platform, this Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine can form the basis for a new hybrid powertrain offered in this vehicle. While it’s a guess, the Alfa Romeo can also consider different hybrid powertrain options like the 4-cylinder-based setup in the TOnale hybrid.
However, the upcoming Stelvio and Giulia are expected to be even more powerful and redefined to regain their market presence. Therefore, these would have six cylinders than the standard four-cylinder-based setup in the Alfa Romeo Tonal Hybrid. Additionally, the new generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Alfa Romeo Giulia will be assembled in the same production line in Italy.
