Hyundai is set to introduce the Ioniq 9, a new three-row electric SUV, later this year.
The Ioniq 9 is built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform, the same as other Hyundai and Kia EVs.
The Ioniq 9 will be manufactured at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia, alongside the Ioniq 5.
Hyundai plans to increase its hybrid offerings in response to growing demand and a shortage in North America.
Hyundai is developing EREVs, electric vehicles with a gas engine used solely to recharge the battery, to help bridge the gap in the EV transition.
Hyundai has announced the upcoming launch of the Ioniq 9, a new electric three-row SUV. Hyundai Motor President and CEO, Jae Hoon Chang, confirmed that the Ioniq 9 EV will be produced alongside the Ioniq 5 at the Georgia Metaplant. While other automakers are pulling back due to lower demand for EVs, Hyundai is pushing to grow its presence in the EV market by introducing new models in popular segments.
The Ioniq 9 will be entirely based on Concept Seven, first introduced in 2021. Hyundai initially indicated that this concept would use the Electric-Global Modular Platform, the same one used for the Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5, Kia EV9, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60.

Hyundai Motor President and CEO, Jae Hoon Chang, announced that the production version of the Ioniq 9 will debut later this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Additionally, Hyundai plans to expand its hybrid offerings to meet the growing demand in the US and address the current hybrid shortage in North America.

As Ford transitions to hybrid models, Kia and Hyundai could take the lead in the mainstream three-row electric vehicle market. While Hyundai remains focused on its ambitious global EV sales goals, the shift to electric vehicles has been slower than expected. To address this, Hyundai plans to introduce EREVs—battery-powered electric vehicles with a gas engine used only to recharge the battery, not to drive the wheels.
Hyundai is making significant strides in the electric vehicle market with the upcoming launch of the Ioniq 9, a three-row electric SUV. Despite the slower-than-expected transition to EVs, Hyundai remains committed to its global electric vehicle goals. By introducing new models and exploring innovative options like EREVs, Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in the EV market, particularly in the competitive three-row SUV segment.
