[The Wait Is Over: Mitsubishi's New Pajero Finally Reveals Its Premium Side]
The wait for the return of one of Mitsubishi's most iconic SUVs is finally starting to pay off. Ahead of its full global debut later this year, Mitsubishi has shared the clearest glimpse yet inside the all-new 2026 Pajero, hinting at a cabin designed to blend premium comfort with the rugged DNA that made the legendary SUV famous.
While the exterior remains mostly under wraps, the newly revealed interior preview suggests Mitsubishi is taking a significant step forward in quality, technology, and refinement for its upcoming flagship SUV.
Mitsubishi has finally lifted the curtain—at least partially—on the cabin of the all-new Pajero before its official world premiere later in 2026.
The first interior images appeared briefly in a promotional video from the company's Star Camp 2026 event at Asagiri Kogen, Japan. Although the SUV itself remained largely concealed throughout the event, a limited number of invited guests were given exclusive access to inspect the vehicle up close and even experience the cabin from behind the wheel.
The footage stops short of revealing the complete dashboard layout, but it provides enough detail to show that Mitsubishi is aiming well beyond the utilitarian interiors traditionally associated with its body-on-frame SUVs.
Comfort Appears to Take Center Stage
The early cabin preview points toward a noticeably more sophisticated interior than previous Pajero generations.
A refined black-and-beige dual-tone theme dominates the visible areas, creating a brighter and more luxurious atmosphere. Light-colored upholstery contrasts with darker dashboard and door sections, giving the cabin a more upscale appearance than Mitsubishi's pickup-based models.
Visible stitching across the upper door trims adds another premium touch, while the seats appear to feature thicker cushioning designed for improved long-distance comfort.
People who were able to sit inside the vehicle during the event reportedly described the cabin as spacious, comfortable, and significantly more refined than expected.
That direction aligns well with Mitsubishi's ambition of positioning the Pajero as both a capable off-roader and an SUV suited for family road trips across markets such as the Middle East, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
A Classic Pajero Feature Makes a Modern Comeback
One of the biggest surprises from the interior teaser is the return of Mitsubishi's signature Multi Meter display.
The feature pays tribute to earlier Pajero generations that featured separate analog gauges mounted above the dashboard, giving drivers quick access to off-road information.
The modern version is expected to display data including:
Mitsubishi has yet to explain exactly how this system will be integrated into the new SUV. It remains unclear whether the Multi Meter will appear within the infotainment system, become part of the fully digital instrument cluster, or retain a dedicated display mounted on top of the dashboard.
Beneath its redesigned body, the upcoming Pajero shares its ladder-frame architecture with Mitsubishi's latest Triton pickup.
However, the SUV isn't simply a rebadged truck. Mitsubishi says the Pajero receives its own cabin design along with model-specific front and rear suspension tuning intended to deliver greater ride comfort and refinement while preserving the durability expected from a body-on-frame SUV.
Four-wheel drive is expected to remain a defining characteristic of the new flagship.
At this stage, Mitsubishi has not announced engine choices, gearbox options, or detailed off-road specifications. While the Triton is available in several markets with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, it remains uncertain whether the Pajero will adopt that powertrain exclusively or introduce petrol, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid alternatives.
The return of the Pajero marks one of Mitsubishi's most significant product revivals in years.
The company describes it as its next flagship model, with its global unveiling planned for autumn 2026—five years after production of the previous generation came to an end.
Since its debut in 1982, the Pajero has become one of Mitsubishi's most successful vehicles, accumulating more than 3.25 million sales across over 170 countries and regions.
Its reputation extends well beyond public roads. The SUV became one of the most successful competitors in Dakar Rally history, claiming 12 overall victories, including an extraordinary streak of seven consecutive wins.
For buyers, the new Pajero is expected to compete directly with established body-on-frame SUVs such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest, offering a combination of genuine off-road ability and increasingly luxurious interiors.
Across GCC markets, the Pajero remains a familiar name thanks to earlier generations that earned popularity for their practical seven-seat layouts, dependable off-road performance, and competitive pricing.
Despite this promising interior preview, Mitsubishi is still keeping many important details under wraps.
The company has yet to reveal the complete dashboard design, infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, seating configuration, interior dimensions, or the full list of comfort and convenience technologies.
Likewise, powertrain options, off-road hardware, and transmission choices remain undisclosed.
For buyers in the Gulf region, another unanswered question is availability. Mitsubishi has not confirmed whether the all-new Pajero will be launched in the UAE or other Middle East markets.
Those remaining details are expected to become clear when Mitsubishi officially unveils its long-awaited flagship SUV during its global premiere in autumn 2026.
