Porsche has unveiled the updated 2027 Taycan, introducing a series of upgrades aimed at making its electric sports car more engaging, efficient, and technologically advanced. However, the biggest headline isn't what Porsche added—it's what the brand has removed.
The German automaker has officially discontinued the Taycan Sport Turismo and Taycan Cross Turismo, ending its electric wagon lineup and leaving the Taycan sedan as the sole body style moving forward.
One of the most talked-about additions is Porsche's new E-Shift technology. Available across the Taycan lineup and standard on the Taycan Turbo GT, the system simulates traditional gear changes through virtual shifts, paddle controls, shift lights, a virtual rev counter, and enhanced electric sound effects.
While the Taycan remains fully electric, the feature is designed to recreate the sensation of driving a high-performance petrol-powered sports car.
Porsche has also improved efficiency across the range. Rear-wheel-drive Taycan models equipped with the Performance Battery Plus and newly developed low-rolling-resistance tyres can now achieve up to 700 km of WLTP driving range.
The update makes the Taycan even more appealing for long-distance journeys, particularly in markets like the UAE where intercity driving is common.
Inside, Porsche introduces its latest digital ecosystem with faster software, improved smartphone integration, and AI-supported Voice Pilot functionality.
New features include:
Perhaps the most surprising change is the discontinuation of the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo variants. Both models offered a unique blend of sports-car performance, practicality, and wagon styling in an EV package.
Their departure leaves a noticeable gap in the premium electric wagon segment, especially for buyers seeking an alternative to the growing SUV crowd.
The 2027 Porsche Taycan is now available to order through Porsche dealerships globally, with regional specifications and pricing expected to vary. While the updated sedan continues to evolve, enthusiasts hoping to own a Taycan Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo may need to act quickly before remaining inventory disappears.
The 2027 Porsche Taycan gains meaningful upgrades in performance, technology, and driving engagement. However, the end of the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo marks the loss of two of the most distinctive electric wagons on the market, making this update as much about farewell as it is about progress.
