The US-based electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla dominates the UAE EV market, accounting for a staggering 64% of electric car sales in the region with the top-selling Model Y. With its spacious interior, potent cargo area, and advanced technological features, the Tesla Model Y has been a popular choice among electric SUV buyers in the UAE. It is reasonably priced and has exceptional safety and an advanced autonomous drive system, making urban commutes more convenient and enjoyable.

However, China’s BYD recently launched its Sealion 7 SUV to offer UAE customers a capable and sustainable mobility option. While the Tesla Model Y has a maximum range of 533 km on a single charge and over 2100 liters of cargo capacity, the BYD Sealion 7 offers up to 462 km of range and up to 1789 liters of cargo space.

There is a minimalist cabin without button controls; the Tesla Model offers a technologically advanced interior. If you are habitual in driving old-gen cars, you may find the front dashboard unfurnished as most controls are accessed through a 15.4-inch large TV-like screen. Tesla Model Y vs BYD Sealion 7 Space & Practicality

Both electric SUVs have comparable and spacious cargo space in terms of practicality. However, the Tesla Model Y wins with its over 2100 liters of cargo space. It also has a standard 854-liter boot space and much bigger space in the front boot.

In BYD Sealion 7, there are 558 liters of cargo space, including a 58-liter front trunk, and when the rear seats are folded, the luggage space can further increase to 1789 liters.

Additionally, the rear passenger seats in both EVs have enough headroom and legroom, offering comfortable space for rear passengers. Tesla Model Y has more cargo space than BYD Sealion 7. Therefore, the Tesla Model Y should be the primary choice if your priority is practicality.

Tesla Model Y is available in three trims, including RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance, with single and dual-motor configurations. Model Y's single motor RWD variant gets a standard range battery and delivers a maximum range of 455 km on 19-inch wheels option, while 430 km range on 20-inch wheels setup.

The base variant Tesla Model Y RWD can accelerate 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. On the other hand, the Long Range AWD and Performance trims offer 533 km and 514 km of range on a single charge. The Long Range AWD and Performance trims accelerate 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and 3.7 seconds, respectively.

The BYD Sealion 7 is available in two trims: Premium and Performance. The Premium trim has a single-motor RWD configuration, while the Performance trim has a dual-motor AWD setup. The base variant, Sealion 7 Premium, can accelerate 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a top range of 482 km. On the other hand, the Performance trim sprints 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and delivers a top range of 462 km.

While the Tesla Model Y performance trim has better 0-100 km/h speed, the BYD Sealion 7 AWD Dual Motor has an incredible power delivery of 523 hp. Moreover, the Model Y can deliver up to 241 km range in 15 minutes of charge and support 250kWh supercharging. The Sealion 7 gets BYD’s blade battery technology, ensuring efficient performance and a longer lifespan.

Tesla Model Y vs BYD Sealion 7 Price in UAE

The price of a Tesla Model Y in the UAE starts at AED 198,170 for the base RWD trim, while AED 201,680 and AED 211,280 for the Long-Range AWD and Performance trims. The BYD Sealion 7 Premium starts at AED 172,900 and AED 192,900 for the top-spec Performance trim.
