While SUV growth is faster than that of the mid-size car class, it would be naive to believe that sedans are no longer valued at all. Some consumers only have classic sedans on their wish list, even in a world where many others want to own a crossover or SUV. For these specific buyers, there are several excellent sedans available in the UAE; they are not drawn to the allure of tough-looking, high-riding crossovers.
Undoubtedly, the latest Kia K5 is one such vehicle: it is sleek, contemporary, loaded with technology, and has a cozy interior. Up to the release of the brand-new fifth-generation model in 2019, the K5 was referred to as the Kia Optima. In addition to a series of enhancements to make this sedan genuinely competitive among its contemporaries, the new Hyundai-Kia N3 platform also comes with a title change.
The Kia K5's sloping hood leads to the KIA emblem, which in turn leads to the renowned "tiger face" of the automaker—which is, in this instance, low-slung and wide. The streamlined headlamps with their Z-shaped daytime running lights complement the deep front bumper with its sporty appearance and functional aerodynamic assistance, creating a front fascia that screams confidence and style.
The Kia K5's hunched-over side profile emphasizes its athletic stance even more, and its swooping roofline adds a stylish yet sophisticated touch that will appeal to customers. In addition, there are the sleek body lines, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a neat small back quarter glass, and shining trim that extends from the A-pillars around the rear window.
The Kia K5 boasts a sizable rear window that reaches all the way up to the sharkfin antenna from the boot-lip spoiler. The K5 also has a well-sculpted bumper and a full-width LED light strip at the back. The Kia K5 appears sleek and contemporary in nearly every aspect thanks to its pseudo dual exhaust pipes, air diffuser, and dual side vents (one stacked above the other) on its bumper.
The exterior measurements of the Kia K5 are 1,860 mm for width, 1,445 mm for height at the roof, 4,905 mm for length, and 2,850 mm for wheelbase. With 510 liters of boot space and nine distinct color options, the Kia K5 is available in the following colors: Aurora Black Pearl, Silky Silver, Steel Gray, Runway Red, Yacht Blue, and Gravity Blue.
The inside of the Kia K5 is stylish, cutting-edge, and functional. The aesthetically enticing features include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a dual-tone interior with LED ambient lighting, stitching throughout the cabin, opulent leather seats, an expansive glass roof, and an abundance of soft-touch materials. The luxurious interior design, which includes a touch-sensitive HVAC control panel, a digital driver's display that can be customized, a colorful heads-up display, and elegant LED ambient lighting, embodies the modern aspect.
Practically speaking, the Kia K5's interior has roomy, comfy seats with enough room for both comfort and room. The back seats, in particular, have wonderful padding and lots of head and knee room. Along with a front and rear USB charging outlet, rear window shades, front and rear cupholders, a conveniently accessible gear lever, spacious and easy-to-use in-car controls, and a trunk area of more than 450 liters, other features include a wireless charging pad.
The new Kia K5 has a far more sealed interior from the outside world than the model that came before it. The build quality is among the best in the industry, and the door closure feels more substantial as well. The center console and dashboard's driver-focused design adds to the K5's modern interior while also reflecting the idea of a vehicle that keeps the driver interested when behind the wheel. Does this imply that the next Kia K5 is a fast vehicle?
Modern features available on the Kia K5 include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, 360-degree cameras, a minimum of six airbags, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist, which can even detect nearby vehicles and stop the doors from opening. There are blind-spot view monitors (BVM), driver attention warning systems, and front and rear parking sensors.
Other noteworthy features include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.25-inch touch-infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, automatic LED headlights, paddle shifters, powered front seats with memory and cooling features, a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push-button ignition and remote engine start.
In the UAE, the Kia K5 is available with a 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine as an option. The larger 2.5-liter engine produces 194 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque; both of these are often used to drive the front wheels and are coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The smaller, naturally aspirated motor produces 150 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque.
The Kia K5 can return roughly 16 km/L or 6.2 L/100 km in a combined cycle, depending on the version. In terms of performance, the punchier Kia K5 can reach a high speed of nearly 200 km/h in as little as 9.5 seconds and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
In the UAE, the 2017 Kia K5 goes up against vehicles like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, and Chevrolet Malibu. The price range for the Kia K5 in the United Arab Emirates is from AED 78,000 to AED 105,000.
Kia K5 offers a comprehensive package with its appealing design, comfortable interior, advanced features, impressive specifications, and competitive pricing. This combination makes it a compelling choice for buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped, and value-driven sedan. Whether it's for daily commuting or long road trips, the Kia K5 is positioned to meet the needs and preferences of a wide range of drivers.
