The Jeep Wagoneer, which debuted in the early 1960s, served as the basis for the 1970s' first-generation Cherokee. Five further incarnations of the Jeep Cherokee have since been released; the most recent was the Cherokee KL, which debuted in 2013. Jeep opted for a crossover design with the last edition of the Cherokee, whereas the previous iterations were boxy SUVs.
Not only did the Jeep Cherokee evolve into a contemporary crossover in its most recent incarnation, but Fiat and Chrysler's partnership produced the platform that supported it as well. Despite performing admirably in certain markets, the Jeep Cherokee's life was sadly short. The Jeep Cherokee was produced for nearly 50 years before the American carmaker ultimately decided to discontinue production of this vehicle in early 2023.
The Cherokee will always be easily recognized as a Jeep on the road because of the brand's iconic seven-slot grille, which is adorned with chrome. Stylish LED headlights that resemble a hawk's head are added to the front fascia; they are striking. The sleek front bumper has a lower apron that has a dynamic appearance and fog lamps with chrome surrounds.
The prominent roof rails, straight wheel arches, and wheels up to 18 inches with a striking 5-spoke design on the top trim are the only features that draw attention to the Jeep Cherokee's otherwise unassuming side. The rear of the Cherokee is adorned with elegant LED strips inside the taillights, a sizable roof spoiler, chrome bumper trim, and twin tailpipes topped with a gleaming chrome garnish.
The dimensions of the Jeep Cherokee are 4,650 mm in length, 1,904 mm in width, and 1,723 mm in height at its maximum. It has a wheelbase of about 2,720 mm, 222 mm of ground clearance, 29.9 inches of approach angle, 32.3 inches of departure angle, and 22.9 inches of breakover angle. Although the Jeep Renegade didn't endure as long as the Jeep Cherokee, it is still larger. The Cherokee Trailhawk has a rugged appearance, while the Limited version is more elegant.
The interior of the Jeep Cherokee isn't going to make you scream with delight at first. This means that, in 2024, its design seems dated and may be derived from an automobile made in the middle of the 2000s. The center console and dashboard are not particularly attractive, but they nonetheless operate rather well. The AC's temperature and fan speed are easily adjustable, and the music system's volume and track selection are managed using two sizable knobs.
The Jeep Cherokee 4WD model has large controls for muting the music system and turning off the infotainment screen, in addition to a sizable dial for navigating through the different terrain/traction modes. Old-school features include a readily readable analog rev counter and speedometer, a standard three-spoke steering wheel, and a sizable electronic handbrake selection. The gear lever is encased in leather. A pleasant front armrest, a good amount of storage compartments, and a dual-tone interior with soft-touch leather upholstery are available on higher-end Cherokee models.
This cabin has plenty of poor, scratchy plastic trim, as you will see upon closer investigation. Mostly restricted to the seats, and steering wheel, and some of the doors are the soft-touch materials. Even though the door cubbies should have been larger, the interior design is unquestionably straightforward and prioritizes usability. However, considering the size of the car, the Jeep Cherokee's boot space of more than 700 liters is remarkable.
A list of standard features for the Jeep Cherokee includes push-button start keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, powered door mirrors, AUX and USB ports, an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multifunction driver's display, electronic stability control, downhill assist control, ParkSense with park assist, and at least six airbags.
There have been two engine options for the Jeep Cherokee sold in the United Arab Emirates over the years: the 3.2-liter Pentastar six-cylinder and the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder. The bigger V6 engine can produce 271 horsepower and 324 Nm of torque, while the Tigershark motor generates approximately 180 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. Both engines are linked to a 9-speed ZF automated gearbox. The fuel efficiency of a Jeep Cherokee is 9.9 km/L to 10.9 km/L (9.2 to 10.1 L/100 km).
The Jeep Cherokee's more powerful Pentastar engine can accelerate it to 100 km/h in around 8.5 seconds, while the Cherokee 2.4 can do the same in roughly 11 seconds. Comparably, the Cherokee 3.2 model has a maximum speed of 185 km/h, whilst the less potent version can only go as fast as 175 km/h. An innovative all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, electronic assistance, and low-range gearing are available for both variants. Neither of them is especially excited about operating a vehicle on the road, though.
The price of a brand-new Jeep Cherokee in the United Arab Emirates starts at about AED 90,000. Both two-wheel-drive (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) versions were available for purchase; the most costly model cost about AED 115,000.
Jeep Cherokee presents a comprehensive package encompassing its design, interior features, specifications, and pricing. This SUV offers a blend of ruggedness and refinement, making it suitable for a variety of driving needs. With its versatile design, comfortable interior, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the Cherokee stands out as a compelling choice in the SUV market. Whether for daily commuting or off-road adventures, the Cherokee delivers on multiple fronts, catering to the diverse preferences of customers.
